Here's a quick tip that might be useful for your traveler to Italy and all other Mac users.

Do you like to rename all your photos you take with the same name and a sequential number? Well, then you're like me. But isn't it a pain to do all this by hand?!

Then maybe this FREE App is going to light up your day ... it's called Name Mangler and does all the above and more. Check it out at .

The URL that cut off in Rednicolas' post is: http://www.manytricks.com/namemangler/
Name Mangler is Donationware.

Ups ... my bad ... of course it's donationware.

Being part of the GPL community for quite a while know getting something for "free" and making a donation when I'm a happy user of something afterwards starts to be normal and thus free and donationware start to be the "same".

Regarding Bob's HP scanner problem. I have the same issue with my Photosmart C5180 All-in-One. The one thing that I have found that I am able to do for scanning something easily into any of my Macs on my network is to use the Embedded Web Server for the HP found at Applications/Hewlett-Packard/Device Utilities/HP Network Settings Utility. This opens up your printer a browser window giving you access to all sorts of info and network settings. It also should list on the home page under Applications on the left side of the page "Scan". Click this and you will find a quick and dirty scan function with settings for image type and document size, as well as a preview. It does not have all the bells and whistles of the full-fledged scanner utility, but it will get the image on your computer quickly, efficiently, and, at least so far as my experience goes, hassle-free. To make things even quicker, I've simply added a bookmark in my browser to open the HP up and do my scan. It works great for documents, but you may need to crop or edit other types of images in some other application.
